14 dream destinations in Europe.
Travel broadens the mind and brings joy to millions of people.
Europe is full of amazing destinations that will all bring a smile to your face, so I have wrote my list of 14 dream destinations to visit in Europe. Along with historical sights and stunning architecture, Europe also has a wealth of dreamy natural wonders to discover.
All of the inspiring places listed are very affordable for tours, or free activities, meaning you can have an action packed itinerary when visiting the uplifting spots.
We all love to travel to experience different cultures and explore weird and wonderful things, so without further ado, here is my list:
1) Sveti Stefan Island - Budva, Montenegro.
The first dreamy destination on the list is the picture perfect Sveti Stefan Island, a very uplifting unique tourist spot in Budva - one of the best hidden gems in Europe.
At first glance, it looks like a scene from the movies. The colourful terracotta style roofs contrast perfectly with the green nature on the island, along with the picturesque backdrop of the Adriatic Sea, making it one of the most instantly recognisable shots in Montenegro.
If natural beauty is your thing, then visiting Sveti Stefan Island will be one of the highlights of your Montenegro trip for sure!
Cycling the famous Seven Bay trail from Budva old town is a great way to fall in love with the famous Montenegrin terrain. You will cycle along beautiful beaches, and through mountain tunnels and tranquil parks all before you reach the perfect free sunbathing spot opposite the exclusive island - definitely one of the best ways to spend your day in Budva.
There are plenty of lively bars along the way for you to get some refreshments in - so take your time and make the most of some of the best views that Montenegro has to offer.
After your day exploring Budva you will understand exactly why the distinctive island makes the list for the most uplifting inspiring places to visit in Europe.

2) Berat - Albania.
History buffs, we may have just found your perfect destination!
Berat, also known as the ‘town of a thousand windows’ has the perfect blend of mysteriousness and vast historical background to really leave visitors with the desire to gain real insight and understanding into Albania’s past. If you spend 24 hours in Berat, you will develop a new fascination with exploring more of the world’s untouched historical gems.
There is just something about Ancient history that really gets the mind racing!
There are many famous historical landmarks to visit throughout the town, all dating back to Ottoman times in the 15th century. A guided walking tour will take you through grand tombs, mediaeval mosques, and of course, the castle of Berat - a highlight of any trip!
Ottoman architecture is certainly one of a kind!
One look at the beautiful buildings is enough to see why the town’s architecture is classed as UNESCO World Heritage architecture. The 2500 years old buildings have had many influences over the centuries, since back in the ancient times, so it is very impressive that they are still standing to this day. How about that for inspiration?
Out of the 14 places to visit in Europe, Berat could be at the very top due to its amazing stand of time!
3) Malta.
If you are looking for a Mediterranean adventure then look no further than Malta!
My main recommendation would be to head to St. Julian’s Bay, to find some top rated restaurants and bars for some great food and social entertainment. You will find some of the best sunset spots in Malta in this area, then afterwards, the bay is lit up on an evening by all the vibrant beach bars - the perfect setting for a cocktail or two, or three!.
Return to the scene of the (hangover) crime in the morning to grab a cheap coffee with unbeatable views of the bay.
For travellers on a budget, there are plenty of free activities for you to choose from all over the island, with my personal favourite being exploring the Mdina Old City, which dates back to Mediaeval times. The city is still fortified to this day so certainly offers a unique travel experience - what are you waiting for?
If you have an afternoon free, why not check out Xlendi Beach, cliff and caves, it really has something to offer everyone. Whether you are an adrenaline junkie seeking some excitement, or prefer a nice relaxing day soaking up the sun at one of Malta’s coolest beaches.
There aren’t many places in Europe as inspiring as Valletta when it comes to architecture!
A diverse influence from Italy, Greece and the Maghreb certainly presents a unique experience wandering through Maltese capital.

4) Krka Waterfalls, Croatia.
If I had to choose two words to sum up Croatia, they are natural beauty!
You can’t go far wrong exploring Croatia any time of the year but during the summer, some of the natural wonders are breathtaking. Krka waterfalls are definitely a contender for the best experience that Croatia has to offer.
The picturesque waterfalls are enchanting to say the least - it is literally impossible not to fall in love with the great Balkan nation after spending a perfect afternoon with nature. Skradinski Buk falls are one of Croatia’s most famous sights, so it is no wonder that tourists flock from nearby Zadar and Split, with some visitors coming from as far as Dubrovnik just to get a glimpse of the fascinating falls.
You can jump on the popular ferry from nearby Skradin, or for the adventure lovers, you can hike or rent a bike. There is nothing more uplifting than the combination of exercise, sunshine and beautiful nature - that’s for sure!
Krka waterfalls is definitely my favourite day trip in Croatia.
There are simply no words to describe the magic in Krka National Park.
Make sure Croatia is your next destination - you won’t regret it, believe me!

5) Bergen, Norway.
Brightly coloured architecture is always uplifting and inspiring, right?
As home to some of the most beautiful looking architecture in Europe, Bergen certainly inspires artistic travellers. The colourful buildings are very uplifting - especially in contrast to the snowy mountains in winter time.
There are no shortage of things to do in Bergen to ensure you have an action filled itinerary whilst visiting Norway. Bergen is renowned for its spectacular fjords, so book your spot on one of the popular day trips and grab a scenic vantage point to snap the perfect panoramic views of Norwegian nature.
If you are a history lover, then look no further!
Take the famous Bergen walking tour and learn about how the community in the fishing port has changed over the last few centuries - to a more modern style circle, and of course the prominent wooden houses!
Find out the stories behind the one of a kind architecture - definitely something you want to check out!
Another inspiring attraction in Bergen is to take to the mountains.
Fill your day with an authentic Norwegian winter experience on snowshoes, hiking up some of the best untouched wilderness in the Nordic country.
6) Neuschwanstein Castle, Germany.
Who doesn’t love a fairytale?
Neuschwanstein Castle is the perfect setting for an enchanting day trip from Munich or other surrounding cities. Over 1.5 million tourists flock to see one of the most beautiful castles in the world every year.
While it is a fairly spectacular sight all year round, it really becomes a sight to hold once the snow covers it in the winter time in Germany. The German winter wonderland is made complete when the moon illuminates Europe’s most fairytale-like castle.
Hands down, my favourite panoramic shot in Europe!
As inspiring places go, Neuschwanstein Castle ticks every box for resembling the castle from the famous Disney movie ‘Cinderella’.
There are complaints that this tourist spot can get too busy in peak times, so planning in advance is essential to really make the most of the awe-inspiring historical landmark. Neuschwanstein Castle can’t be missed on your visit to Germany, especially if you visit during the snowy winter time - a traveler’s dream!
In fact, Neuschwanstein Castle goes straight to the top of my list for dreamy destinations.

7) Hundertwasserhaus, Vienna.
Some places just tick all the boxes for creative imagination!
Hundertwasserhaus has inspiration in abundance and is definitely one of Europe’s most unusual tourist spots.
This popular free activity in Vienna will keep you occupied for an hour or two while exploring the Austrian capital. It just cannot be missed! The pedestrian zone boasts a museum, a village with shops, a café and some more uplifting architecture in the village interior - that is if you get bored of admiring Hundertwasser’s beautiful house.
Vienna is full of many highlights, so add in a visit to a couple of the magnificent palaces, or how about a river cruise down the Danube? Whichever way you decide to spend your day you just have to start it off at Hundertwasserhaus, there is a reason why it makes my top 14 uplifting and inspiring places in Europe list.
If you are lucky enough to be in Vienna at Christmas time, then the world famous Vienna Christmas markets are within walking distance of Hundertwasserhaus and they are AMAZING! A warm hot chocolate in and amongst the Austrian atmosphere of the Viennese Dream Xmas market is as uplifting as it comes.

8) Kirkjufell Mountain, Iceland.
Iceland will easily become your favourite European destination if you catch the Northern lights!
One absolute must experience to do while visiting Iceland is Kirkjufell Mountain. As one of the most photographed mountains in Europe, you will see exactly why as it dominates the landscape, with a starry backdrop - how about that for inspiration!
Also known as ‘Arrowhead Mountain’ in Game of Thrones, the mountain is no stranger on a travel bucket list!
My recommendation would be for you to book the very popular guided day trip to visit the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, along with the beautiful Icelandic mountain. The natural wonders in Iceland really are one of a kind, so you need to make the most of the opportunity, while you can!
To really make the most of your trip to the Icelandic wonder, a summer trip is the best bet. If you are lucky you will catch the vivid shades of green and red which capture the dark night’s sky. You also have the opportunity to climb the famous mountain during the warmer summer months.
The northern lights are as uplifting as you can get during your travels - an absolute dream!

9) Mostar, Bosnia & Herzegovina.
The vibe in Bosnia & Herzegovina is something truly special!
Whether you are exploring the charming bridge and nearby architecture or hearing the Bosnian people’s stories, you are guaranteed to come away from Mostar enriched with positivity and some unforgettable memories.
Mostar is extremely good value for money as it avoids following neighbouring Croatia with rising prices, so go and visit the exciting bazaar’s and grab some traditional Bosnian memento bargains. The Balkans is full of surprises and underrated places to visit.
The story of the underrated Balkans city is enough to place it on the list of the 14 most uplifting inspiring places to visit in Europe. Having been on the front line of the war and being destroyed only a mere three decades ago, it is hard to believe as you walk down the winding cobbled streets towards the Stari Most (old bridge), and see the smiles on the faces of the locals.
For tourists who like to move away from the beaten track, head towards Alekse Šantića Street to admire the brilliant building graffiti art. Certainly a highlight, especially when you consider the story behind the art.
It doesn’t take long to realise why I adore the magical city!

10) Bratislava Castle, Slovakia.
Another one of my favourite day trips in Europe!
As one of Europe’s most underrated cities, Bratislava doesn’t see as many international tourists as other nearby International cities, however, how can it get more inspirational than a glorious castle overlooking and protecting a great city!
Incredible castles are dotted all over Europe and Bratislava Castle is definitely the most eye-catching, due to its archetypal towers and gleaming white colour. It is no surprise that the castle is the symbol of the great Slovakian capital.
Visiting the Castle is a very popular and cheap thing to do in Bratislava, so it should b eon your Bratislava itinerary. You will catch a glimpse of the famous Slovakian building from every corner of the city as it commands the skyline - day and night!
For a small entry fee you can gain access to the inside of the castle, which includes a museum, some grand interior white and gold architecture and a typical castle courtyard.

Dubrovnik is one of those destinations you just have to tick off the bucket list!
Make no mistake, you are going to have a fantastic time from the minute you arrive in the iconic Croatian city. Dubrovnik is just bursting with history and the city is designed in such a way to show you as you wander around the old town.
Within the walled city there is no shortage of things to do!
You can see thousands of pictures of Dubrovnik, but I guarantee you it will still leave you speechless when you enter the historic walled city. The first place to start is with a tour of the famous walls, which surround the colourful vibrant old town. On the tour you will be met with unbeatable panoramic views of the Adriatic sea and the terracotta roofs which make Dubrovnik so fascinating to so many visitors. You will also uncover many historic secrets from an enriched past in the port city.
My personal highlight in Dubrovnik was the secret Buza cliff bar (A bar inside the cliff). Relax with a refreshing drink and watch people jump from the cliffs with an amazing Adriatic sunset backdrop. This is definitely one of the best cheap things to do in Dubrovnik - so go check it out!
If you want a sunset overdose then head to the cable car and make your way up Mount SRD to experience the dazzling Balkan sun setting with an unbeatable view of the Old Town.

12) Azores, Portugal.
A Hawaiian style adventure in Europe you say?
The Portuguese Azores Islands are known as the ‘European Hawaii’, and it is easy to see why when you take a look at the natural landscape that covers the archipelago of 9 islands in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Bruges is the perfect place to do so, as it is one of the best preserved medieval towns across the globe! The famous Belgian town displays a masterpiece in ancient architecture with towers, turrets and then flemish art is plentiful. At night the town really becomes dreamy, as the canals provide the most amazing mirror images of the beautiful unique buildings - a must see for sure!

You will find thousands of different beers as you make your way through the Belgian town. Beer tasting is a real highlight on any visit to Bruges.
Saving the best until last, Chocolate! Belgian chocolate is a personal favourite and touted as the nicest chocolate in the world. You can’t walk down a street in Bruges without that alluring smell of chocolate delight. If the quirky chocolate shops don’t tempt you, then the Choco-Story museum definitely will. A chocolate paradise which takes you through the history of chocolate.
There is nothing more uplifting than chocolate (from a chocoholic!).
14) Grindelwald, Switzerland.
I have saved the best until last!
There is absolutely no disputing that Grindelwald takes top spot for spectacular scenery.
You can’t visit Grindelwald without leaving in a better mood, it is just too beautiful - this is definitely going to be a trip you’ll never forget.
Summer is a very popular time for tourists to head to Grindelwald to check out the 300km of walking trails that surround the small Swiss paradise. There are several world famous mountains, which you can catch a glimpse of from many unforgettable viewpoints dotted around the area.
Adrenaline junkies, there is more for you!
