Cycling in Ibiza in 2024.
Ibiza (the white isle) is mainly known as a party place, and that is how I spent my previous four visits to the Balearic Island, but this trip was different.
The plan was clear - cycle to Es Vedrà Rock Ibiza and find the best viewpoint!
This trip was about exploring the beautiful nature which covers the underrated Island of adventure.
A question which we researched before heading to Ibiza was how to get to Es Vedrà Island? We wanted to see the beautiful view, so we planned to cycle across Ibiza, with the magical Es Vedrà being the reward for the hard work.
Es Vedrà is one of Ibiza’s most visited landmarks and makes for the best Ibiza sunset for sure.
Follow my photo essay on the magnetic journey across Ibiza by e-bike, to find the best Es Vedrà viewpoints on the blissful Balearic Island. Another reward was a wonderful meal in Es Vedrà restaurant with the perfect view of the mythical rock.
This made for an unforgettable experience and a day of pure adventure and exploration. Spain is full of interesting things to do.
The best Es Vedrà viewpoint in Ibiza.
Es Vedrà Island isn’t just an iconic rock off the coast of Ibiza, it is a mythical legend in the region.
Touted as being the third most magnetic point in the world, only behind the two poles, and the root of the high levels of energy which transcend the white Isle - especially in the summer!
Es Vedrà Rock Ibiza certainly has to be experienced whether the myths are true or not, you are guaranteed a laid-back vibe along with some great food and the best Ibiza sunset.
The 413 metres tall rock is iconic and makes for the perfect backdrop to your snaps. Although Es Vedrà has no habitants now, it is home to some famous ancient fables which surround the history of Ibiza.
The start point of the adventure - Eivissa.
Eivissa (also known as Ibiza Town) is a great place to base yourself.
We started our cycling journey in Eivissa, as it makes the perfect location to base yourself when visiting slightly out of season (early April), and is also home to the bike rental place we used. All year round it is lively due to the locals that live there, so you won’t have to venture far to find something to do, or to find a lovely restaurant/coffee shop.
If you need directions to Es Vedrà, then the locals will be more than happy to send you in the right direction!
Pre-journey fuel - The perfect breakfast.
Before a full day of cycling in Ibiza in the sunshine, you need to fuel yourself, right?
Oakberry Acai was the choice, after some research on the build up to the trip after seeing plenty of Instagram posts which made the Acai bowls look incredible. We weren’t going to eat until we arrived at Es Vedrà, so opted for the large classic Acai drink with added whey protein.
The verdict? Worth the wait!
Touted as a superfood, the South American berries are a low-calorie fruit which are the perfect choice for smoothies due to the sweetness they possess. They certainly satisfied my incredibly sweet tooth!
Acai berries are full of antioxidants, fibre and calcium - all perfect for a long bike ride!
Getting to grips with my first ride on an e-bike.
The planned ride to Es Vedrà Rock was around 15 km each way, but with some challenging elevation and high temperatures, so we opted for e-bikes - Why not?
As an avid cyclist, it is a surprise that I had not ridden an e-bike previously but where better to start than on a travel adventure?
After renting a bike in Albania, Montenegro and Slovakia, it is my new favourite way of exploring new/exciting places as it speeds up the exploration. The e-bike reached top speeds of 65 km downhill and a cruising speed of around 25 km when climbing the several steep ascends. Also, the battery lasted all day with ease, despite being in turbo mode all the way back to Eivissa after our meal at Es Vedrà restaurant.
So, the bike choice got a 10/10 from us!
Joyful building graffiti art in Eivissa.
Another aspect of travel and exploring that I really enjoy is finding graffiti art in different destinations and comparing the way in which the art is designed and displayed. We cycled past many different pieces of art on buildings, steps in the park and walls throughout Eivissa.
This piece brightens up the street we walked down on route to picking the e-bikes up.
The main road which connects different sides of the Island.
A large section of the ride across Ibiza was on main roads, however, there are cycle lanes most of the way. You will be treated to some beautiful nature throughout your ride so make sure you live in the moment and really enjoy the surrounding natural beauty.
More graffiti art to check out during the ride.
More graffiti art!
There is an abundance of natural beauty on route to Es Vedrà, but some man-made beauty also offers a layer of intrigue to the journey, through unique graffiti art and quirky coffee shop stops.
This derelict building certainly piqued my interest as it reminded me of some scenes you find on childhood video games back in the day!
Cactus farm which we passed - Who doesn’t love cacti?
Passing the cactus farm also prompted my interest as it isn’t everyday you see cacti - especially with it being native to the Americas. Another landmark of the bike ride which brought back childhood memories of films and cartoons.
The bike ride is starting to get weird and interesting now!
The first magical viewpoint - Sant Josep.
A quick stop at Sant Josep as the magical viewpoint was a real treat for our cameras. We also couldn’t wait until Es Vedrà restaurant for some refreshments - as it is thirsty work cycling in the heat.
I also needed a few moments to recover after my little cycling accident (a story for another blog).
We could have sat in the sun admiring the views for days, but we had to keep going as we were getting closer to Es Vedrà.
A rare sighting of a church on the white Isle.
The last thing I expected to see during our Ibiza adventure was a random church - not exactly how I imagine or remember the Island when thinking back to my previous party trips.
The ride wouldn’t be complete without a little bit of culture and history involved though!
Next stop - Es Vedrà!
The first glimpse of Es Vedrà Rock Ibiza from the hilly road.
Finally, the first sighting of Es Vedrà!
Oh, and finally some downhill sections to ride down after a fair amount of ascending.
We could feel the magic of the mythical island in the air as we approached the famous viewpoint.
The best viewpoint of Es Vedrà in Ibiza - The postcard snap!
Mission accomplished!
After around an hour and a half of cycling and exploring we reached our destination - Es Vedrà Island!
The famous rock island lived up to its reputation as it was amazing. It is impossible not to capture the perfect postcard shot from this vantage point. We visited slightly out of season which meant we had the place to ourselves basically!
Next time we need to visit at sunset, but on this occasion due to riding there we did not have time.
We headed down to Es Vedrà Restaurant by the beach though.
Another great viewpoint of Es Vedrà from the beach.
The beach offered another perspective of Es Vedrà - there is always another perspective!
We chilled on the beach with a beer for a little while taking in our surroundings and catching a tan before heading into Es Vedrà Restaurant.
Es Vedrà Restaurant to finish the adventure.
We were starving and the restaurant did not disappoint!
There were so many dishes to choose from and we were starving, how to pick?
I eventually opted for the lamb chops which were delicious and gave me all the energy I needed for the ride back to Eivissa.
A very successful day ticking Es Vedrà Island off the bucket list. Now it’s your turn!
Two other awesome things to do in Ibiza.
On my trips to Ibiza, I have enjoyed other activities, and here are my favourite two:
Party.
If you visit the island during the popular party season between May and October, you can visit some of the best beach clubs in Ibiza, which are located in different spots on the Island.
My favourite ones are located in Playa D'en Bossa.
Hike.
Ibiza is an underrated hiking destination, and is home to many different trails in and around the beautiful nature and coastline of the island.
The Casa Blanca region was my favourite spot for some exercise in the Balaeric sunshine.
